In January 2008 was created the Centro de Investigación Biomédica En Red de Salud Mental (CIBERSAM), driven by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), with the major goal to improve the clinical care and mental health of our society through knowledge generated by translational research in psychiatry and neurosciences.
CIBERSAM is made up of 25 clinical, preclinical and translational research groups belonging to 8 autonomous communities. These groups, selected on a competitive basis among the most productive in the country, are mainly focused on the study of mental disorders such as depression, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder as well as anxiety disorders and mental illnesses in children and adolescents.
Our missions is to provide answers and solutions to improve the knowledge of mental disorders, improving mental health promotion, prevention and current treatments. For this reason, we take a translational approach and actively seek to gather and generate the maximum research talent in the groups that carry out their activity in hospitals, research centers and universities.
The team lead by Dr. Edith Pomarol-Clotet (grup G15) is part of this network of excellence since its creation, working with the best teams in the rest of the state and since 2022 coordinates the Schizophrenia Platform.
