Erick Canales Rodríguez holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Havana (Cuba), a Master's degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Barcelona (Spain), and a PhD from the University of the Basque Country (Spain). He is coauthor of an article that received an award from the Cuban Academy of Sciences in 2007, and won the Spanish Society Neuroimaging's award for the best published work in 2010.
He is part of a group of researchers who were recognized for their contribution in the field of Biomedicine by the Cuban Academy of Sciences in 2011. He is co-winner of the High Angular Resolution Diffusion Imaging Reconstruction Challenge 2013, organized within the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI 2013) conference, San Francisco (USA).
His research focuses on anatomic and functional brain characterization by means of different Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) modalities, as well as on the development and application of novel algorithms and computational methods to brain imaging data.
